Cheated on…

So….  Here’s how my day started…

Woke up like normal, got ready and headed out the door to take Beth to work and the kids to daycare.  We stopped at a gas station that that I will not name, but we were able to SPEED in and then be on our WAY out quickly.

I picked up an item for Mikayla to give one of the teachers at the daycare because it was her birthday.  This is when the story gets interesting…finally…

I get said item and proceed to the cashier for the transaction in a SPEEDy WAY.

I sit the item down, and an Overly Friendly Cashier (OFC) says to me, “Hey Buddy, how are you doing today?”

Now I felt really good as it was still the morning and this guy is very happy and excited to work…I’m sure his day just SPEEDs along WAY too fast.

Me: “I’m doing very well thanks, How ’bout yourself?”

OFC:  “Doing good, do you have your Sp**dy Rewards Card?”

Me: “I sure do, here ya go.”

OFC:  “SPEEDY”

OFC is still extremely happy…

OFC:  “That will be 99 cents sir”

I then hand him a dollar…

OFC: (singing)  “Out of a dollar, here is your penny”

Me:  (chuckling) “Awesome, Thanks man, have a great day”

OFC:  “See ya later Buddy”

I then walk away from the check out area but hear the sound of a severe back biting…

OFC: (to guy behind me in line)  “Hey buddy, How are you doing today”

–I could have sworn that I was this guys buddy.

But then out of nowhere, this OFC tosses me over to the side and now I am no longer his buddy, but the next guy in line is now his “buddy”

I felt so cheated on…

So I walked out as SPEEDily as I could and was on my WAY….hurt.

Growth

And the answer is no… The only thing that’s growing on me is my belly.

I have noticed over the past few months things getting harder and in some cases easier. For those of you who don’t know my wife and I have recently had a new baby boy and he is awesome. I am very thankful for my wife, my daughter and now my son. Since he has come in to our lives things have changed considerably….again. He’s like the iPhone 4.

The day Beth went back to work was probably the hardest. After I dropped them off at the daycare I went in to my car and journeyed from one side of Fairfield back over to the church. 75% of my drive was spent crying because i had gone from spending almost every moment with him since the day he was born, to being without him for close to 10 hours. I shared my thoughts with Beth that night and said that I would eventually get used to it, but I don’t ever want to get used to being away from my son or my daughter and wife for that matter.

I know that things are changing in my life much like every one else, but I have a constant that I know won’t change now matter were I am or what I’m doing.

God is sovereign and He is holy. I am so thankful for what He’s done in my life and what He’s doing now.

This upcoming year through many events through church, Horizon and personally, I want to know Him more. I want to begin to see things the way He sees things. I want to minister the way He wants me to minister. And most importantly, I want to grow in the calling that He has placed on my life.

Thank you Jesus for everything, and I mean that. I can’t do a thing without you and I don’t want to take a step without you leading me. Amen.

United we stand…

I was watching a video earlier today and it reminded me of how much we need to be united as the Body of Christ.  Our jobs are not to compete with each other or to try and “one-up” one another.  But we are to encourage one another.  Ephesians 4:29 says that no corrupt word should come out of our mouth, but only what is good and edifying.

United we stand, but divided we fall.

Too many times we let the enemy get in to our head and tell us lies about how someone else feels about us.  It is his plan to stir up trouble and cause division among God’s people.  The devil is a liar and the truth is not in him.

Be encouraging today and lift up your fellow believers.  There will come a time when you yourself need to be encouraged and they’ll be there for you.  Let us be…united!

“Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.”

1 Corinthians 1:10

Forgiveness

Last night at Horizon I spoke on the last few verses of Romans 12 to complete our R12 series for the month.  I spoke on what we should be doing when we’ve been hurt.  We have choices and those choices are what define us.  When someone hurts us, we need to choose to pray for that person and forgive that person.  After everything that Jesus went through, all of the beatings and mockery, He forgave.  He said in Luke 23:34a  “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”  What kind of love is that?  It’s perfect love.

The last part of Colossians 3:13 says, “Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”  It also says in Matthew that if we don’t forgive others sins against us, that the Lord will not forgive us.

Choose to forgive today.  Don’t hold grudges.  Grudges turn to bitterness and bitterness turns to anger.  When things fester they begin to stink and cause a problem.  Just like a glass of milk that you forget on the table after a day.  It will begin to change.  It slowly starts to get thicker and smellier, I’m not even sure if that’s a word.  Purge yourself of the unforgiveness.  Picture the person who you haven’t forgiven sitting in a chair right in front of you.  Now forgive them.

Forgiveness is a vital test in the “course of being a christian.”  A test that we must pass.

Forgive today as the Lord has already forgiven you.

Lack of Sleep

Whoever said, “You can sleep when you’re dead” needs to be punched in the face.  Sleep is not overrated, in fact it is underrated.  Scientific studies that I’m making up to prove my point show that the need for sleep is detrimental to the overall performance of a person during the day.  That said, my singing and dancing may not be all that it needs to be today.

We went to Perfect North Slopes last night.  Along with Revolution Student Ministries out of Xenia, we went tubing and skiing and some of us even tried to snowboard.  I was with the group that wanted to go skiing/snowboarding because I love to ski and what better way to watch people fall down than go to the bunny hills and watch people try to make snowboarding look easy.  So after a couple people fell and I slowly skied past them chuckling to myself, our group progressed up to more difficult hills.

Watching first time skiers fly down hills with no clue how to stop mixed in with watching two of the members of my group almost take out someone who had gotten hurt and was being transported down the hill, we made it to Center Stage.  A black diamond hill that is not too intimidating at first sight, but when you start ascending the hill via the ski lift, you realize that this very well could be one of the stupidest things you’ve ever done in your life

I was right…

After making it down approximately 20 feet of the hill, I lost my balance and ate it hard.  I think my total distance traveled while I was on my backside, back, front, face was about 100 yards.  I was still picking out snow and ice out of my pockets 15 minutes after I returned my skis.

All in all, it was a very fun night, but now I am extremely tired and I’ll be honest.  I’m a little sore.

I hope everyone has a great day because as soon as 1pm rolls around, I’ll be asleep.

God Bless

Goals and Eye Boogers

One of my goals for this year is actually get on a regular schedule with my blogging.  There have been so many things that I have wanted to just sit down and write, but I always feel myself being pulled another direction.  I want to use this outlet to be able to speak to people about what’s on my heart and my mind.  Now I realize that I’m not the most eloquent speaker, nor do I have many wonderful ideas that people would want to read on a daily basis.  But what I do have is a desire to motivate and help people in any way that I can.

My goal for this blog is to inspire, encourage, and for others to inquire of me.  While I don’t know everything, I do know some things.  And some things is better than no things.  Unless it pertains to eye boogers, then that last statement is false.  There will be times when I’m posting videos, images, graphics, and many other things.  There will also be a section of my site dedicated to Student Ministry.  At the church that I am serving, God has spoken it in to my heart to do monthly series.  I would like to make my graphics available to the many youth pastors that are out there.

Please join in with me on this journey.

I have decided…

To follow Jesus, but I think I’m going to start an audio podcast.

Wow it’s been a while since I’ve posted.

Not just your normal audio podcast, but a podcast of me just humming. Could you imagine a full 10 minute podcast of me just humming a certain note.  I think it’s a genius idea that will immediately take off and before you know there will be a ton of podcasts of people just humming.  I can’t think of anything better than that.

On a side note, I have spoken with Gabe of Godsmac.com and I am now a contact person for Digital Disciples for the Cincinnati area.  Go over to the site and check it, look for a location in your area to get involved especially if you’re interested in church technology or just technology for that matter.

Wow…what a couple of weeks

It has definitely been a while since I’ve blogged about anything.  I have been at the Southern Ohio Church of God Youth Camps these past few weeks and I have had such a great time.  I was asked to do the video for the senior high and junior high weeks.  It was so much fun.  I watched people fall down a 40foot slip n’ slide, people fall into a lake, and people dive(fall) in to mud.  I think one of the funniest things ever is to watch people fall.  I was able to keep some of the video that I will most likely post in some way or another.  Here is the video intro that I put together for each of the days on the camp DVD…

One of the coolest things about these past couple weeks is watching the power of God move on the students while they were at camp.  I have been so privileged to work with the students while at camp and to see a wide array of young people get blessed, it was amazing.  God is moving on this generation of people.  He is doing a great work with them and I personally cannot wait to see what the future holds for some of them.  God is calling His people to do a specific work in these last days.  I hope I’m here to see it fulfilled.

Counting the Cost

I remember growing up and being so headstrong.  I remember getting myself in to things that I should have never done.  One example of this is when I thought it would be a great idea to start my own “club” in elementary school.  There were tons of “clubs.”  I think about how ridiculous it was now.  The clubs were basically groups of friends that hung out together.  You had to do something outlandish if you wanted to be in a club and you weren’t in that specific group of friends.  To be in my club you had to do one of two things.  Either throw a playground ball at the teacher on duty during recess or you had to climb a tree out in the playground.  The thing about climbing the tree was that you had to get to a certain branch before you got yelled at. Through this experience I began to alienate friends and thought it would be a great idea to make all the members of my club to do these things just to stay in the club.  I dove in headstrong and never counted the cost.  Even though the cost was very small in comparison to what we deal with now.

Those qualities that I had continued with me throughout my school age and kept up with me in college.  I never counted the cost when I decided to take 28 credit hours one quarter at college.  I found myself in a world of hurt as I was trying to keep my head above water and not flunk out of school.

As I have entered my late 20s, I have started to realize things that I have never thought of before.  I have come to the conclusion that I need to think a little bit more before I agree to do something or just jump right in.  We always check the depth of the pool before we dive in headfirst.  So why don’t we start counting the cost before we jump in to things when it comes to our regular everyday lives.  So many christians today are getting way to deep in to problems because they don’t count the cost prior, myself included. In Luke 14, Jesus talks about taking up our cross and following Him.  That’s the cost of being a christian.

A lot of people today say that they want to follow Jesus. They join the church and for a while you will see them every week, but when they find out how much it is going to cost, they fall away. Being a true follower of Jesus is not always easy, but it is always worth it, if you are willing to pay the price.
